Luzerne County Council members were briefed on a proposed data center zoning ordinance that would apply in 19 municipalities lacking their own zoning systems. The amendment, recommended by the county Planning Commission, would establish extensive development conditions and require all data center proposals to receive special-exception approval from the county Zoning Hearing Board.

Council Vice Chairwoman Brittany Stephenson and Chairman Jimmy Sabatino said another work session is expected before a required public hearing and final adoption vote. The proposal has not yet been approved, although council members expressed positive views about its thoroughness.
