Three San Antonio City Council members are scheduled to make a public call for a temporary moratorium on new AI data centers within the city. The announcement, led by District 6 Councilman Rick Galvan, along with District 5 Councilwoman Terry Castillo and District 8 Councilwoman Eveliz Meza Gonzalez, will take place at City Hall.
Galvan's memo advocating for the local moratorium follows a statewide action by Governor Abbott earlier this week. On Monday, Governor Abbott ordered ERCOT and the Public Utility Commission to conduct an audit of all data centers seeking to connect to the Texas power grid. This order effectively pauses the approval of any new data centers across the state until the audit is completed.
