Republican county council members to introduce data center "balance" resolution
Four St. Joseph County Council Republicans are introducing a resolution to ban new data centers in St. Joseph County, Indiana. Four Republican members of the St. Joseph County Council in Indiana, including Joe Thomas, Amy Drake, Randy Figg, and Andy Rutten, are introducing a resolution to ban new data centers within the county. The resolution directs the area plan commission to draft new zoning ordinances and rules that would prohibit future data center development.
The council members assert that St. Joseph County already hosts around 40 data center buildings and seeks a more diversified economy, noting that neighboring Marshall and Cass counties have already implemented similar bans. Following the area plan commission's drafting of these changes, the St. Joseph County Council will review them, hold public meetings, and then vote on the proposed ordinances. The resolution is slated for discussion at the county council meeting tonight.
