Butler County, Kentucky officials are proactively exploring potential regulations for large-scale data centers, despite having no specific development proposals currently under consideration within the county. During a recent Fiscal Court meeting, Judge-Executive Tim Flener stated that local leaders are consulting with attorneys and other Kentucky county officials to understand the industry's demands and regulatory approaches.

The county's efforts are driven by statewide discussions on data center impacts, particularly concerning water usage and infrastructure demands. County Attorney Michele Duvall noted that unlike many other Kentucky counties, Butler County lacks countywide planning and zoning, which limits some traditional regulatory tools.

Flener emphasized that while no proposals have been finalized, officials are considering options such as water use restrictions and infrastructure requirements. The goal is to establish a legal and enforceable regulatory framework by the start of the new fiscal year, ensuring the county is prepared if a data center project emerges in the future.
