Residents Organize Opposition to Proposed Data Center Complex in Lower Towamensing Township, Pennsylvania
About 100 residents attended a meeting organized by Save Carbon County to oppose a proposed data center complex in Lower Towamensing Township. The project developers, DTA Alliance LLC and Murphy's Meadow LLC, are challenging the township's zoning ordinance and seeking a curative amendment that would allow data centers on more than 700 acres near Palmerton and Bowmanstown.
About 100 residents gathered at the Palmerton Area Library to organize opposition to a proposed data center development in Lower Towamensing Township. Save Carbon County is coordinating volunteers, public testimony and outreach ahead of a scheduled township hearing, where residents are expected to raise concerns including water, noise and property values.
The proposed development by DTA Alliance LLC and Murphy's Meadow LLC would include 13 or 14 data center buildings, a possible power-generation facility and roughly 4.5 million square feet of building space across more than 700 acres near the Blue Shamrock Golf Club and DTA Alliance's sand quarry. The developers filed a curative amendment challenging the township's zoning ordinance, arguing it unlawfully excludes data centers. The township Board of Supervisors appointed Norris McLaughlin PA attorney Graham Simmons III to advise on the challenge, while a public hearing is scheduled for Oct. 27.
