AI cloud company CoreWeave to fill $440M Cedar Creek data center
CoreWeave is identified as the occupant of EdgeConneX's $440 million data center in Cedar Creek, Texas, which is expected to open in August. Bastrop County previously approved property tax abatements for the facility. Residents continue to raise concerns about the data center's impact on water, electricity, and noise, prompting a public hearing on proposed tax-abatement guidelines.
CoreWeave Inc., an artificial intelligence cloud company based in New Jersey, has been identified through state and county records as the expected user of EdgeConneX’s first data center building in Cedar Creek, Texas. This $440 million facility is part of 19 potential buildings planned by EdgeConneX and is anticipated to open in August.
Bastrop County approved a 10-year, 75% property tax abatement for the building in December 2024, with commissioners assigning the benefits to CoreWeave in October 2025. The Texas Comptroller’s office also certified the project in July 2025, granting CoreWeave a 20-year exemption from state and local sales and use taxes on qualifying purchases for the data center’s operations and equipment. A similar certification was granted for buildings 11-16 of the EdgeConneX development, though the occupant for those facilities remains undisclosed.
Despite these developments, Bastrop County residents continue to express concerns regarding data center expansion, particularly the potential effects on water, electricity, and noise. A recent town hall on July 22 discussed projects by EdgeConneX, Pacifico Energy, and Amazon Data Services, noting that over 5,500 acres in Cedar Creek could be dedicated to data center development if all proposed projects proceed.
In response to public interest, Bastrop County commissioners are scheduled to hold a public hearing on July 27 to review proposed tax-abatement guidelines. These new guidelines would require applicants to disclose potential environmental impacts and commit to creating at least 25 full-time jobs, with a minimum of 25% filled by Bastrop County residents.
