Luzerne County Council set to discuss data center zoning ordinance
The Luzerne County Council is scheduled to discuss a proposed data center zoning ordinance at two work sessions. The amendment would apply in 19 municipalities that rely on county zoning and would impose extensive conditions and special-exception review requirements for data center applications.
The Luzerne County Council is set to discuss a proposed ordinance regulating data center development during work sessions following its Tuesday voting meeting. The measure would apply in 19 boroughs and townships that use county zoning rather than maintaining their own zoning systems.
Recommended by the Luzerne County Planning Commission, the proposal would establish extensive conditions for data center projects and require additional special-exception approval from the county Zoning Hearing Board. Council Chairman Jimmy Sabatino said the additional sessions are intended to give council members and the public time to understand the amendment before any action is taken.
