Hundreds of Tonganoxie-area residents rallied against the proposed Bluestem hyperscale data center and power plant near the town. Opponents cited concerns about water safety, noise, air pollution, the project's 1.2-gigawatt scale, and its proximity to schools, a nursing home and a daycare.

Hundreds of residents gathered Sunday in Tonganoxie to oppose the proposed Bluestem hyperscale data center and associated power plant. The project is described as having a planned capacity of 1.2 gigawatts, far larger than the data centers residents say they are accustomed to seeing in the area.

Resident Rebecca Davis and other opponents said they are concerned about water safety, noise, air pollution and the proposed site's location less than a mile and a half from schools, a nursing home and a daycare. Organizers also said residents have not received enough information about the project and urged Leavenworth County leaders and commissioners to provide greater public transparency and consider community concerns.
