Amherst County is facing ongoing discussions regarding a proposed data center in Madison Heights. According to Hayden Robertson of WSET ABC 13, local leaders will convene to address a developer's application for a data center project situated off Route 29.
The proposed development encompasses 93 acres, with approximately 40 acres designated for the data center itself. A critical point of contention stems from the timing of the application, which was submitted on August 18th, the same day county supervisors voted 3 to 2 to categorize data centers as requiring a special use permit. The upcoming closed session meeting of the Board of Supervisors will decide whether these new special use permit regulations apply to the current project or if it will be grandfathered under previous rules.
