Residents of Mona, Utah, voiced strong opposition at a recent Juab County Commission meeting regarding a proposed data center intended for a site west of their community. The project, described as potentially the largest in Juab County history, has sparked significant concern among locals.
Residents claimed they were never properly included in discussions about the data center, stating that no affected landowners or citizens of Mona were informed or consulted. They alleged that the developer chose not to inform locals and that a conditional use permit was approved during a four-minute public hearing on April 15th, held under the name Nebo North LLC, with only the county, selling landowners, and developers present, and without informing the Mona city council.
Juab County Commission Chairman Clinton Painter apologized to residents, acknowledging that they did not feel properly notified and stating that data center proposals had come quickly. He expressed regret if he had fallen short in meeting the county's needs.
Further concerns raised by residents at the meeting included the substantial amount of water and electricity the data center could consume, as well as potential noise pollution impacting their community.
