Independent U.S. Senate candidate Brian Bengs challenged Sen. Mike Rounds to a public town hall debate before Election Day. Bengs said the discussion should address data centers’ water and electricity use, land impacts and public input after Rounds attended a private forum with AI data center industry leaders in Rapid City.

Independent Senate candidate Brian Bengs challenged incumbent Sen. Mike Rounds to participate in a public town hall debate in South Dakota before Election Day. Bengs said voters should be able to question Rounds about data center development after the senator attended a private forum with AI data center industry leaders in Rapid City.

Bengs’ campaign cited concerns about data centers’ water and electricity consumption, land impacts and the need for public input. According to the campaign, Rounds has declined debate invitations from South Dakota Public Broadcasting and KELOLAND News.
