Plymouth County hits pause on data centers with 1-year moratorium
Plymouth County Supervisors have approved a one-year revocable moratorium on the construction of data centers and industrial battery storage facilities. This decision was made to allow the county time to develop regulations regarding construction, water and power usage, and noise issues. Woodbury County Supervisors are also considering a similar moratorium.
Plymouth County Supervisors have unanimously approved a one-year revocable moratorium on new data center and industrial battery storage facility construction. The vote was four-to-nothing, with one board member absent. Supervisor Chairman Don Kass stated the moratorium's purpose is to allow the county sufficient time to develop comprehensive regulations addressing potential issues such as construction standards, water and power consumption, and noise pollution.
The neighboring Woodbury County Supervisors are reportedly also considering implementing a similar moratorium on data center development, indicating a regional trend of local governments seeking to manage the rapid growth of these facilities.
