Luther landowners raise concerns over proposed data center near their property
Landowners Kelly and Josh in Luther, Oklahoma, are concerned about a proposed data center adjacent to their property, which has halted their dream home construction plans. They are questioning their land investment and advocate for the city to set policies to prevent such developments. A Luther City Council meeting discussing the data center was postponed due to high public turnout.
Landowners Kelly and Josh in Luther, Oklahoma, expressed significant concerns after discovering a proposed data center site would share a property line with their land along Coffee Creek Road. The couple had spent two years strategically planning and were about to begin building their dream home, including a shop and a pond, but now their plans are on hold. They stated they would not have invested in the land had they known about the data center proposal.
KOCO 5 News reached out to the City of Luther for comments on the status of the deal with BLE Land Holdings, LLC, the company overseeing the data center, and whether environmental impact studies had been conducted. No response was received from the city. The Luther City Council meeting, which was scheduled to address the issue, was postponed at the last minute by the Mayor, who cited the large number of attendees as the reason. The meeting has been rescheduled for June 17th.
Kelly emphasized the need for the town to "set a policy now to where the town of Luther does not have room for a data center," reflecting the sentiment that such facilities are undesirable directly on residential property lines. Josh added that even if they cannot build, they would feel guilty selling the land to someone else, and would likely incur a financial loss.
