Vienna Township trustees vote on new data center moratorium, return proposed zoning regulations
Vienna Township trustees voted to extend a data center moratorium for another 180 days after concerns about electricity costs, utility funding, permitted locations and power supply. They also sent proposed zoning regulations back to the zoning board and planning commission for revisions, a process expected to take at least three to four months.
Vienna Township trustees voted to extend the township's data center moratorium for another 180 days, despite Trustee Phil Pegg's opposition to the decision. Trustees Michael Haddle and Kim Ellis cited residents' concerns about utility funding, electricity-generation costs, permitted locations and the supply of power to proposed data centers.
The trustees also returned proposed zoning regulations to the zoning board and planning commission for changes to the language. Pegg argued the action could make the township appear closed to development, while Haddle said the moratorium would temporarily protect the township as officials refine the rules. The latest moratorium had expired October 16, and the revisions could take at least three to four months to return to the trustees.
