The Metropolitan and Economic Development Committee of the Indianapolis City County Council has approved Proposal No. 238, which would implement a data center moratorium in Indianapolis. This decision, made during a meeting on Monday, advances the proposal to the full council for consideration at an upcoming meeting on August 10.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett issued a statement supporting the proposed moratorium, acknowledging its importance to residents and signaling future engagement with stakeholders. The Citizens Action Coalition also publicly commended council leadership for authoring an amendment to the proposal.

Bryce Gustafson, a program organizer for the Citizens Action Coalition, highlighted that over twenty other Indiana counties have already enacted data center moratoria, suggesting Indianapolis deserves similar protections and a thoughtful process regarding data center development.
