Spartanburg County Council approved the first reading of an ordinance governing a development agreement for the Valara/NorthMark Strategies data center project on Pine Street. The agreement would establish additional landscaping, lighting and noise requirements beyond the county’s standard provisions and provide mechanisms for ongoing enforcement.
County leaders said the measures are intended to provide stronger protections for nearby residents. They also said the data center is regulated by the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services and that the council recently approved a resolution requesting action from the agency.
