This meeting, held in Grand Island, marked the inaugural session of Nebraska's Data Center Task Force. The task force's objective is to assess how the state should manage the rapid expansion of data centers, specifically addressing concerns about the potential strain on local power and water resources. Micaela Wuhler, a spokesperson from Lincoln County, highlighted that counties possess the necessary planning and zoning tools to reject projects deemed unsuitable for their specific areas, emphasizing that not all data centers, particularly hyperscale ones, are appropriate for every location. The Data Center Task Force is scheduled to convene again next month in Columbus.
