Columbia Data Center Rules
Columbia’s Planning and Zoning Commission is developing regulations for potential data centers, with concerns focused on electricity, water and zoning. The city’s moratorium on new data centers remains in effect until May 2027, while draft rules are expected in December and a public hearing is scheduled for January 7.
Columbia’s Planning and Zoning Commission held its sixth and final work session on proposed regulations for potential data centers. Commissioners discussed electricity capacity, water use and zoning as the city prepares to review public feedback on October 22.
A draft of the regulations is expected in December, followed by a public hearing on January 7 and consideration by the Columbia City Council. New data center construction remains prohibited under the city’s moratorium, which is scheduled to remain in effect until May 2027.
