Prime Data Centers has officially commenced construction on the initial phase of its expansive 240MW IT Phoenix campus in Avondale, Arizona. The groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of the first three of five planned data centers, each designed for 48MW of critical IT load within a 267,000-square-foot facility.

The full campus, a $3 billion investment, will encompass 66.5 acres and 1.3 million square feet, featuring 20 data halls. Key features include concurrently maintainable mechanical and electrical systems, multiple carriers, and comprehensive security. Michael Wall, Executive Vice President of Product Delivery at Prime Data Centers, highlighted the project's long-term investment in Avondale and its commitment to responsible growth and sustainability.

The development is focused on meeting the demands of AI and high-performance computing, incorporating a dedicated on-site 250MW substation, with Phase 1 already commissioned. Sustainability is a core tenet, with the campus committing to 100% renewable energy and utilizing a closed-loop cooling system that eliminates process water use during operations. Furthermore, Prime procures Water Restoration Certificates® equal to 120% of its annual operating water consumption.

Avondale Mayor Mike Pineda emphasized the project's economic benefits, predicting new jobs and long-term growth for the community. He lauded the sustainable design, particularly the advanced cooling technology, as an example of responsible investment positioning Avondale for future success.
