Bullitt County officials move toward data center moratorium
Bullitt County Fiscal Court is moving to enact a one-year moratorium on data center development, with a first reading of the ordinance already held. Judge Executive Jerry Summers opposes data centers due to infrastructure and energy demands. The city of Shepherdsville will also hold a first reading on the topic.
Bullitt County, Kentucky, is considering a one-year moratorium on data center development. The Bullitt County Fiscal Court held the first reading of an ordinance on Tuesday that would ban any new data center construction for a year.
Bullitt County Judge Executive Jerry Summers expressed his opposition to data centers in the area, citing significant infrastructure and energy demands. He referenced UPS World Health's large freezer facility in the county as an example of existing high energy consumption, implying that data centers would further strain resources.
The city of Shepherdsville is also taking steps regarding data centers, with its first reading on the issue scheduled for an upcoming Monday council meeting at Shepherdsville City Hall.
