Google has officially announced its plans to construct a new data center in LaGrange, Georgia, located in Troup County at 411 Pegasus Parkway. The company highlighted its intention for the facility to be "one of the most energy-efficient in the industry" and committed to covering 100% of the power and infrastructure costs associated with its operations, ensuring these expenses will not be passed on to local residents.
As part of its community engagement, Google will donate $1 million to the Groundwell SOUL program. This initiative aims to fund home safety and efficiency upgrades for local seniors and families, helping to reduce energy costs. Furthermore, Google reiterated its commitment to environmental stewardship, pledging to replenish more freshwater than it consumes for its data center projects and partnering with the Trust for Public Land to restore habitat along the Chattahoochee River.
The project has received strong support from local leadership, including LaGrange City Manager Patrick Bowie and the president of the Development Authority of LaGrange. Bowie stated that Google's investment will fill "a vital void" in the city's utility system left by a previous electric customer's departure and will lead to infrastructure improvements that benefit all utility customers by exerting downward pressure on rates. Jen Ryan, Google's regional head of data center public affairs, emphasized the company's goal to be a "good neighbor" and its continued partnership with Georgia.
