The Killeen City Council voted 6-1 at a joint meeting with the Planning and Zoning Commission to direct city staff to draft an alternative data center ordinance that would not require a conditional-use permit. Councilwoman Beverly Williams said she did not vote, despite the city secretary recording her as part of the majority.
The Killeen City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission directed city staff to prepare an alternative ordinance governing data centers. The proposed approach would reverse an earlier direction and eliminate a conditional-use permit requirement for data centers.
The official tally of the joint meeting was 6-1, with Councilwoman Mellisa Brown recorded as the only opposing voter. Councilwoman Beverly Williams said she did not vote, telling KDH News that she did not hear Mayor Joseph Solomon ask those opposed to raise their hands.
