St. Bernard approves 12-month moratorium on new data centers
The Village of St. Bernard, Ohio, has approved a 12-month moratorium on new data center developments. The Village of St. Bernard, Ohio, has unanimously enacted a 12-month moratorium on new data center developments. Village leaders approved the measure to provide themselves with more time to assess the potential impacts of data centers on local communities.
Despite the moratorium, a proposed 150,000 square foot data center with 24 megawatts of capacity at the former Proctor and Gamble Ivorydale facility (most recently the St. Bernard Soap Company) will still be considered. This project is exempt because its developers had already submitted an application for approval prior to the moratorium's passage. The proposal is scheduled for a hearing before the Board of Zoning Appeals. For the duration of the 12-month period, however, the village will not process any new data center applications.
