An administrative judge has issued a ruling in favor of Boulder City leaders and environmentalists, halting the construction of a data center on public land near the city. The decision comes after Boulder City officials, along with environmental groups the Center for Biological Diversity and the Sierra Club, lodged an appeal with the Interior Board of Land Appeals in late July. They sought a stay to prevent a Texas-based developer, identified as Townsite Solar 2, from utilizing federal permits for the project.
Residents had previously characterized the initial permit amendment, granted by the Bureau of Land Management to Townsite Solar 2 for an existing solar farm site, as a "backroom deal." The judge's ruling pauses all construction on the data center project until the full appeal process can be completed by the Interior Board of Land Appeals.
