Data centers are expanding fast — but so is the opposition

Communities across the US, including Indianapolis and several Indiana counties, are protesting and enacting temporary bans on new data center projects due to concerns over energy use, water, and quality of life. The Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development is holding information sessions to discuss proposed regulations for data centers within the city's zoning ordinance. This comes as some states, like Maine and Oregon, are also considering or advancing statewide pauses on development or tax incentives.
