Mitsubishi Electric to Build Ohio Data Center Cooling Plant

Mitsubishi Electric announced its plan to invest approximately $30 million to establish a new company, MEHITS US, Inc., in Mason, Ohio, by August 2026. This new entity, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric US Holdings, Inc., will focus on the development, manufacturing, sales, and maintenance of data center cooling equipment specifically for the United States market. Production is scheduled to commence in April 2027, utilizing a renovated section of an existing manufacturing site operated by Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America, Inc.

The strategic move is aimed at establishing a "local-for-local" production system in the U.S., which Mitsubishi Electric identifies as the world's largest market for data centers. This initiative seeks to shorten lead times, ensure a more stable product supply, and enable the development of solutions tailored to local customer needs, including energy-saving and high-efficiency products, as well as equipment compatible with liquid cooling systems, which are increasingly demanded by AI-driven data centers.

MEHITS US, Inc. will be capitalized at $15 million and is expected to produce around 6,000 cooling units annually by 2030, including direct expansion models, fan wall models, and coolant distribution units (CDUs). Masahiro Kaji is slated to lead the new company as President and CEO. Currently, Mitsubishi Electric's U.S. data center business primarily involves Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. supplying power equipment alongside cooling systems manufactured by its Italy-based entity, MEHITS. The establishment of the Ohio plant is part of a broader strategy to offer comprehensive data center solutions globally.
