Residents of Warren, Maine, voted on Wednesday, July 8, to approve an 180-day moratorium on data center development. An overflow crowd at the town office nearly unanimously supported the measure.

The purpose of the moratorium is to give the town time to develop local ordinances and regulations for potential future data center applications. The Warren Select Board has the authority to extend the moratorium in additional 180-day increments, following public hearings, if progress is being made on the new ordinances. Warren Town Planner Dan DeBord provided explanations regarding the moratorium under consideration.
