Keller secures protections for residents near planned Westlake data center
Keller officials reached a settlement with Westlake and the owners of a planned data center near the Marshall Ridge neighborhood. The agreement gives Keller enforceable noise-monitoring rights, noise limits, landscaping requirements and financial contributions, although nearby homeowners remain concerned about the project’s effect on property values.
The planned data center would be built in Westlake on an open field next to homes in Keller’s Marshall Ridge neighborhood. Residents said they support the need for data centers but opposed placing the facility so close to their homes and preferred a site nearer Texas 170.
Keller City Council announced a settlement with Westlake and the data center owners that provides the city with enforceable rights to monitor and address noise. The agreement includes noise limits at residential property lines, a 10-foot landscaping berm, and financial contributions to community benefit, fire protection and legal-cost funds. Keller Mayor Ross McMullen said protecting residents was the city’s primary responsibility. Westlake’s town council was expected to review and accept the settlement, while residents continued to express concern about potential declines in home values.
