Data center campus confirmed to be part of Pickett Road development proposal
City officials in St. Joseph, Missouri, have confirmed that a proposed voluntary annexation of property on Southeast Pickett Road could become the site of a data center campus with up to four buildings. The developer, STJ Data Center LLC, has agreed to hold a community meeting in mid-July to discuss the project, which is expected to create 200 jobs and generate significant tax revenue. The city plans to review the rezoning and annexation requests separately.
City officials in St. Joseph, Missouri, have confirmed a proposal for a new data center campus on Southeast Pickett Road. The development, which would involve up to four data center buildings, is tied to a proposed voluntary annexation of the property.
The city stated that no tax incentives were offered or requested for the project. The developer, identified as STJ Data Center LLC, has agreed to host a public community meeting in mid-July to address local concerns and provide more information. The formal request for STJ Data Center LLC was sent to the Secretary of State's office in February 2025 and subsequently approved.
Project leaders anticipate the data center will employ up to 200 people upon completion and will support critical digital and cloud infrastructure. They also project a long-term tax base, potentially generating $50 million in annual tax revenue, which could significantly boost economic development for both Buchanan County and St. Joseph. The city will review the property's re-zoning request independently from the annexation request, which was initially submitted in early April.
