Paxton, Talarico still fighting tight Senate race, per latest Emerson-Nexstar poll
A recent poll in Texas indicates a tight race for the U.S. Senate and Governor. The poll also found that nearly 60% of Texas voters oppose data centers being built in or near their communities, while only 32.5% are receptive to such projects. The economy, immigration, and threats to American democracy were identified as top issues.
An Emerson College Polling and Nexstar Media poll reveals a close contest for the U.S. Senate seat in Texas, with Republican candidate Ken Paxton holding a narrow lead at 47% over Democratic candidate James Talarico at 46%. The poll, which surveyed 1,000 likely voters, also shows Republican incumbent Greg Abbott leading Democratic candidate Gina Hinojosa by four points, 49% to 45%, in the gubernatorial race.
Demographic analysis highlighted a significant age gap in the Senate race, with voters under 50 favoring Talarico and those over 50 supporting Paxton. President Donald Trump and Governor Abbott both faced majority disapproval among Hispanic voters. The economy was identified as the most important issue for respondents, followed by immigration, threats to American democracy, and healthcare.
Notably, the poll included a question regarding data centers, finding that 59.5% of Texas voters oppose data center construction in their communities, with only 32.5% supporting it. Additionally, a substantial 71% of voters believe Texas legislators are primarily concerned with their own financial interests.
