Spotsylvania planners recommend 555-acre Amazon data center

The Spotsylvania County Planning Commission voted 4-2 to recommend approval of a proposed 555-acre Amazon Web Services data center campus in the Lee Hill area. The Crossroads Technology Campus would include multiple data center buildings and three electrical substations. More than 50 proposed conditions include a minimum 300-foot vegetated buffer near homes. Supporters point to an estimated $8 billion investment and about $30 million in annual county tax revenue at full buildout. Nearby residents remain concerned about noise, generators, environmental impacts, property values and the loss of trees and wildlife. The proposal now heads to the Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors for a public hearing and final vote.
