Multiple data centers proposed in Boyd, Greenup Counties
Multiple data centers are proposed by Andrew Biggs, a London-based company, in Boyd and Greenup Counties, Kentucky. Public meetings are being held to educate residents about the projects, which face existing construction moratoriums in Russell and Ashland that need to be lifted by August 31st. Residents expressed differing opinions and skepticism regarding the developments.
Andrew Biggs, a London-based company formed last month, is proposing to build multiple data centers in the Boyd and Greenup County areas of Kentucky. Roubaix Data Centers, owned by its parent company The Sumner, is also involved in the proposed development.
One potential site for the data centers is the former A Case property in Ashland, with the majority of the project, 70%, intended for the City of Russell. Chris Hunt from Gateway City Consulting, a company working to secure the site, explained that current moratoriums on construction are in place in the City of Russell, Boyd County, and the City of Ashland, restricting development.
At a recent meeting, the company sought to educate residents on their plans, including power and water usage, and investment in the community, rather than requesting the immediate removal of the moratoriums. Hunt stated that once built, the center would sustain around 200 or more jobs. Residents expressed mixed opinions, with some supporting the construction and others, like a Greenup County resident, raising unanswered questions and suggesting alternative uses for the property, such as a commercial airport.
The developers indicated they would need the moratoriums lifted by August 31st to commence construction immediately.
