Data center moratorium hearing will be held in July
The Woodland Park City Council will hold a public hearing in July on a proposed temporary moratorium on data center applications. The measure passed its first reading in June, allowing the city to gather more information on data center impacts before further development. This follows similar actions by other Colorado municipalities and counties.
The Woodland Park City Council is advancing a temporary moratorium on new data center developments, with a public hearing scheduled for July 16. The measure, which would halt the submission, acceptance, processing, and approval of data center applications, passed its first reading at the June 18 council meeting. This initiative aims to provide the city with time to gather more information regarding the potential positive and negative impacts of data centers within the municipality.
If enacted, Woodland Park would join several other Colorado localities that have recently imposed similar pauses. Jefferson, Larimer, and Boulder counties, along with the City of Denver, have already passed moratoriums. Additionally, the Town of Monument is scheduled to vote on a data center moratorium in July, and Longmont has approved a ban on data centers consuming over 100 megawatts of power.
