Hanover County residents and Humane Society representatives are pushing back against data center developer Opidan over construction noise, truck traffic and potential impacts on nearby dogs and a trail. Opidan said it is considering measures including a taller fence or sound barrier and plans to meet with the Humane Society, but neighbors said a six-foot fence would not be sufficient.

A large crowd attended a Hanover County meeting to raise concerns about Opidan’s planned data center warehouses near the Humane Society. Residents and shelter representatives cited construction noise, tractor-trailer traffic and the possible effect on dogs, trails and nearby operations.

Opidan said the two warehouses had already been approved by Hanover County and indicated it was open to additional discussions. The developer is considering measures such as a taller fence or sound barrier and plans to meet with the Humane Society, while opponents urged stronger buffering and asked whether the road could be moved or eliminated.
