The Broken Bow Planning Commission held a public hearing on proposed zoning ordinance amendments for data centers, drawing approximately 60 residents. Zoning Administrator Jacob Holcomb explained the commission's role in reviewing proposed changes before making a recommendation to the Broken Bow City Council, which holds final authority. Holcomb also announced that city staff would recommend a six-month moratorium on new data center development to allow officials to refine local regulations, following an inquiry from a data center operator after the city's proposed ordinance became public.

Residents voiced numerous concerns throughout the hearing, including the strain on electrical infrastructure, increased utility costs, groundwater usage, property taxes, land acquisition practices, and long-term environmental impacts. Speakers like Trent Loos praised the city's proactive approach but urged officials to strengthen the ordinance and remain vigilant against state or federal laws that could limit local control. Mark Cardoza emphasized protecting natural resources from large corporations.

Commission Chair Nicole Bailey reiterated that the commission's duty is to establish legally defensible zoning regulations to protect the community, not to ban legitimate businesses outright. Following public comments, commissioners unanimously voted to postpone action on the ordinance, citing the need for additional time to process the information presented. The date for the next planning commission meeting will be announced publicly.
