How to apply for Linn County’s data center advisory group
Linn County is seeking residents to serve on a newly created 40-member advisory committee examining data center development and possible updates to the county’s zoning code. The committee was approved by the Linn County Board of Supervisors as part of an 18-month moratorium on large-scale data center development.
The Linn County Board of Supervisors approved a 40-member advisory committee to study data center development and recommend potential changes to the county’s zoning code. The panel will include representatives from the county’s 18 incorporated cities, Benton and Johnson counties, municipal officials and Linn County residents. Residents can apply through Oct. 19, with meetings scheduled to begin Dec. 2.
The committee will examine issues including energy impacts and water use before compiling recommendations for supervisors to consider. Planning and Development Director Charlie Nichols said the group will provide guidance on zoning updates rather than take a general position on data centers. The committee is part of an 18-month moratorium on large-scale data center development that supervisors approved in July by a 2-1 vote.
