Taylor data center is moving forward
Taylor approved a development agreement allowing the Taylor Technology Campus to annex and develop a 664-acre site east of the city. The project would include a 500-megawatt data center and a 750-megawatt natural gas power plant, despite strong resident opposition over noise, water use, pollution, and community impacts.
Taylor officials approved a development agreement for the Taylor Technology Campus, formerly known as Project Mustang, clearing the way for BigWatt Digital and PowerHouse Data Centers to develop a 664-acre site at 3301 FM 112. The proposed $1 billion development would include a 500-megawatt data center and a 750-megawatt natural gas-fired power facility, with the property annexed into the city from Williamson County.
City officials said the agreement provides regulatory control and could generate millions in revenue while requiring setbacks, noise limits, dark-sky lighting standards, and generator testing. Residents, including Carrie D’Anna, continued to oppose the project and associated power plants, citing concerns about quality of life, water use, noise, light, and pollution. The development agreement was approved after the developers withdrew an earlier zoning application.
