Curtiss Smith once owned just over four acres off County Highway LL before selling it last August to a powered-land developer. The company assembled surrounding parcels and prepared the site with the grid and utility infrastructure needed for a hyperscale AI data center. Vantage Data Centers later acquired the site and is now constructing the data center facilities.

Before construction could begin, developers had to acquire the land. We spoke with Port Washington residents, who sold land for the massive data center, which will house infrastructure for OpenAI and Oracle.

According to Smith, he signed a contract with Cloverleaf Infrastructure to sell his land in 2024. At this time, Smith says he believed the land would be used for a microchip factory. It wasn’t until 2025, months later when he learned his land would be used for a data center.
