This total includes nearly 11 million gallons for initial system fills, with ongoing maintenance requiring about 168,000 gallons annually. Oracle emphasized that public drinking water will not be used for these systems and has committed $50 million to local water infrastructure.
Oracle has publicly detailed the projected water usage for its Project Jupiter data center in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, estimating approximately 13.5 million gallons of non-potable water will be used over 15 years. This comprehensive figure includes nearly 11 million gallons for the initial filling of both the data center's closed-loop cooling systems and Bloom Energy's fuel-cell system. Following the initial fills, Oracle projects an ongoing annual water consumption of about 168,000 gallons for system top-offs and maintenance.
Manny Sanchez, Chair of the Doña Ana County Commission, highlighted an August 11 water-use breakdown published by Oracle. The figures clarify the combined water demands for the four data center buildings and the fuel-cell system, with STACK Infrastructure and Oracle providing data center specifics and Bloom Energy for its fuel cells. Oracle emphasized that the project will utilize non-potable well water purchased from an existing New Mexico water-rights holder, explicitly stating no public drinking water will be used for the cooling or fuel-cell operations. Additionally, Oracle has committed $50 million towards local water and wastewater infrastructure, with a significant portion already funded.
