The City of Hermantown announced restricted gathering areas, parking closures, bag limits and a first-85-visitors cap for Friday’s rescheduled City Council meeting on permits for Google’s proposed data center. The meeting queue will begin around 4:30 p.m., with virtual viewing available but public comments limited to in-person attendees.

The security measures follow an Oct. 26 meeting that was abruptly adjourned after several dozen data center opponents crowded City Hall, chanted and stomped their feet. Police Chief Jim Crace declared an unlawful assembly, and the meeting was postponed again before being rescheduled for Friday evening.
