Brush City Council Advances Proposed Data Center Regulations
The Brush City Council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance establishing standards for future data centers. The proposed rules would address setbacks, noise, water conservation, electrical capacity, environmental protections and special-use permits, with a community meeting planned before a second reading.
The Brush City Council advanced an ordinance creating standards for future data centers before any project has been proposed in the city. The measure would regulate setbacks, landscaping, screening, noise, water use, electrical infrastructure, air quality, traffic, environmental protections, community benefits and financial guarantees, while requiring future facilities to obtain a special-use permit.
Community Development Director Tyler Purvis said the rules are intended to prepare the city for potential interest from data center operators and address concerns about power demand, water consumption and environmental impacts. Council members approved the first reading unanimously and agreed to hold a community meeting so residents can review the proposal and offer feedback before a second reading; some standards, including sound measurement and eligible zoning districts, may still be revised.
