The Jefferson County Plan Commission and Louisville Metro's Office of Planning are holding multiple public meetings regarding proposed data center regulations, an unusual approach given that ordinances typically only require one meeting. This initiative follows the Office of Planning's update to its proposal after reviewing more than 3,600 public comments.
During the first public hearing, citizens voiced significant concerns. One individual quoted Ben Franklin, emphasizing liberty over security, while another resident urged for proactive measures rather than reactive ones, specifically inquiring about water waste disposal, treatment of chemicals or cooling fluids, and the potential for a "giant industrial mess and demolition bill" for taxpayers should a company cease operations.
