Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont and Republican challenger Ryan Fazio discussed the state’s approach to data center development. Lamont said he opposes large hyperscale facilities because of their potential electricity consumption and impact on power prices, while Fazio has sought to repeal state tax incentives for data centers.

In an election interview, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont and Republican challenger Ryan Fazio outlined opposing concerns about data center policy. Lamont said Connecticut has not approved large hyperscale facilities and cited the electricity demand of a proposed project near Millstone Power Station, saying it could consume as much power as hundreds of thousands of homes and increase electric rates.

Lamont also defended the need to balance tax incentives with local control, noting that municipalities must approve projects and that some Connecticut towns are pursuing their own moratoriums. Fazio has sought to repeal the state law offering tax breaks to attract data centers, while Lamont said Connecticut’s relatively high electricity prices make the state less attractive to developers.
