Wapakoneta shares information about potential data center development
Wapakoneta officials are informing residents about early discussions involving a potential small data center at the Wakanet Industrial Park. The city says it is not negotiating with the developer, and officials are still assessing power, water use, wastewater, and the project’s proposed closed-loop cooling system.
Wapakoneta officials have posted information about preliminary discussions involving Collocation Technology Services and a potential smaller data center at the Wakanet Industrial Park. City officials emphasized that Wapakoneta is not currently negotiating with the developer, while the Wapakoneta area economic development group has been communicating with the company about possible public information meetings.
The city previously made data centers a conditional use, requiring additional review and approval before development could proceed. A city study found that the area’s power needs could be met without additional infrastructure, but officials are seeking more information about the proposed facility’s closed-loop cooling system, water consumption and wastewater impacts. No public meetings or development approval have been finalized.
