East Whiteland Data Center Faces New Lawsuit Threat
East Whiteland United, a residents’ group, has threatened to sue East Whiteland Township and developers Green Fig and Sentinel Data Centers over the proposed Project Forge data center. The group alleges problems with land-use approvals, water availability, environmental reviews and building-permit changes, but no lawsuit has been filed and existing project approvals remain in place.
East Whiteland United delivered an eight-page notice of intent to sue on Oct. 20, naming East Whiteland Township, its supervisors, Green Fig and Sentinel Data Centers as prospective defendants in a dispute over the proposed 1.5-million-square-foot Project Forge data center. The project is planned for a 79-acre former Cyprus Foote Mineral Co. property, a Superfund site along the East and West Whiteland Township border, and received township approvals in 2018 and 2024.
The residents’ group alleges that later design and permitting changes bypassed required municipal review, that the project’s environmental assessment was inadequate, and that the water utility could not meet the development’s needs. The notice follows a Chester County judge’s rejection of an earlier land-use appeal and two township stop-work orders related to proposed revisions. The notice is not a filed lawsuit, and the project’s existing approvals have not been overturned.
