Bulloch County advances $2.5 million solar proposal, appoints 15-member data center committee
Bulloch County commissioners approved a preliminary agreement for a $2.5 million solar project serving county public safety facilities. They also appointed a 15-member committee to help develop future rules and policies for data center development in the county.
Bulloch County commissioners unanimously approved a preliminary Project Development Agreement with GRP/WEGMAN to study and engineer an approximately half-megawatt solar array at the sheriff's office and correctional institution campus. The proposed system could offset about 37% of the campus's electricity use, with an estimated $117,000 in first-year savings, although the vote did not authorize construction and final pricing remains pending.
Commissioners separately approved a 15-member Data Center Committee by a 3-1 vote. The committee will assist county officials as they consider future rules and policies governing data center development. Commissioner Nick Newkirk said he had asked to serve on the committee but was denied a seat.
