'It was shocking' | Trenton Mayor announces plans to resign at end of year. Here's what happens next.
Trenton Mayor Ryan Perry announced he will resign Jan. 1, as the city faces ongoing debate over two proposed data centers and a November ballot measure that would ban certain data centers. Opposition has also advanced in neighboring St. Clair Township, where an amendment banning data centers was sent to the Butler County Zoning Commission.
Trenton Mayor Ryan Perry announced at a City Council meeting that he will resign Jan. 1, citing increased work responsibilities. Vice Mayor Floyd Croucher is expected to become mayor, while the council will vote to fill the vacant vice mayor position under the city charter.
Perry’s departure comes amid a year of contentious debate over two proposed data centers in Trenton and a November ballot measure that would ban certain data centers. St. Clair Township resident and zoning commission member John Glenn, who opposes the projects because of potential noise and contamination concerns, said the township had advanced an amendment to ban data centers and delivered it to the Butler County Zoning Commission. Glenn said he would prefer a special election to determine Perry’s successor.
