Port Washington, Wisconsin, is experiencing a massive construction boom at the Vantage Data Centers Lighthouse Campus, a project so extensive that Mayor Ted Neitzke described it as a "second city" for the area. Currently, about 1,000 workers are on-site daily, a number expected to peak at 5,000 as the 675-acre data center continues to develop. Ramon Perez, Vantage's environment, safety, and health manager, provided details on the rapid construction, noting that two of the four data center buildings are beginning to take form, with steel frames erected and concrete work imminent. One building will span 560,000 square feet, and another 725,000 square feet, with total dimensions comparable to the Empire State Building's length. The entire complex is expected to be weather-tight by year-end, with full completion slated for 2028. Safety is a priority, with plans for a helipad and three medical teams. Sustainability is a key focus for the project. Kelli Johnson, Vantage's senior sustainability specialist, highlighted that the buildings will meet LEED standards. She also detailed water conservation efforts, including a closed-loop water system that will use less water than local public schools, on-site retention ponds, and a $3 million contribution to the Valley Creek project to improve water quality and reduce flooding. Vantage aims for a 41% biodiversity net gain, preserving existing trees on the property.
