The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners is considering establishing two task forces to delve into data center-related concerns within the county. During a recent hearing, commissioners outlined that one group would concentrate on the energy and water consumption associated with data centers. The second task force would be dedicated to studying industrial and commercial zoning regulations for these facilities.
District 3 Lancaster County Commissioner Matt Schulte emphasized that the proposal serves as an initial step in their data center discussions, aiming to find appropriate locations and timing for data center developments. The task forces are expected to include representatives from key local entities, such as Lincoln Electric System, Nebraska Public Power District, and the Chamber of Commerce.
Commissioners anticipate holding further discussions on the matter in the coming weeks and hope to finalize a comprehensive plan by the close of the year.
