Moms in Western Henrico lead opposition to proposed Goochland data centers
Henrico County mothers are organizing opposition to proposed data center campuses in Goochland County, including the nearly 900-acre Tuckahoe Tech Park. They cite concerns about diesel-generator emissions, noise, light pollution and effects on home values, while Goochland faces a lawsuit over its data center zoning district and reviews the district’s regulations.
A group of mothers living in Henrico County near the Goochland County line is campaigning against proposed data center development in Goochland. The projects include the nearly 900-acre Tuckahoe Tech Park along Route 6/Patterson Avenue, which would require a conditional-use permit, as well as other potential campuses that could be built within Goochland’s Technology Overlay District.
Residents including Courtney Dare and Jennifer Butner said they are concerned about diesel generators, air quality, noise, light pollution and impacts on property values. Hundreds of neighbors attended an informational meeting, and the group plans to participate in upcoming meetings involving Henrico and Goochland officials. Goochland County has welcomed public feedback, while the county is also facing a lawsuit challenging the Technology Overlay District and has approved a review of what the district includes.
